The Perm - Shalya - Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) railway line is the main section of the Kirov - Omsk highway, which provides the shortest transportation of goods from Siberia and the Far East to the Northwestern regions of the European part of the country.
In the 1930s, the Kirov and Molotov expeditions of Lentransproekt specialists (since 1951 - Lengiprotrans) were organized to address the issues of increasing the throughput of the East - Center direction.
During the war years, the expedition was based in Perm (at that time Molotov). In 1941-1942, surveys were carried out, a technical project was drawn up and working drawings were developed for the second tracks on the Perm - Sverdlovsk section. In 1942, construction work began, but was soon suspended. The expedition was switched to a number of works providing military transportation on the Perm and Sverdlovsk railways. After the war, construction continued and the second track was completed by 1951.
For the timely provision of construction with working drawings, the design group of the institute was awarded the prizes of the Minister of Railways of the USSR.
In the period 1945-1955, the Signaling and Communication Department of Lengiprotrans designed an automatic blocking on the Perm - Sverdlovsk section.
