The railway line Ruchi Karelskie - Alakurti (now Alakurtti) is a section of the Oktyabrskaya railway, passing through the territory of the Kola Peninsula. At the station Ruchyi Karelskie the line branches off from the Loukhi - Kandalaksha direction towards the border with Finland.
Initially, the road was built to supply Soviet soldiers during the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940. In the early 1950s, Lengiprotrans developed a project to restore and complete the line to Kuolojärvi station, which became part of the USSR after the war. Under the peace treaty, Finland assumed the obligation to complete the construction of a railway on its territory to the city of Tornio, to connect the Kola Peninsula with the Gulf of Bothnia. However, this has not been implemented. Later the line Ruchyi Karelskie - Alakurti was used for the transportation of timber and other goods.
The design and survey work of the Lengiprotrans expedition at the site was hampered by the difficult terrain and the intersection of numerous logs by the track.
To organize the movement of trains on the line Ruchi Karelsky - Alakurtti, an electric rail system is used. This type of communication is used on single-track railways and ensures traffic safety, excluding the simultaneous presence of more than one train on the stretch.
