On October 14, 2020, JSC Lengiprotrans (part of the 1520 Group of Companies) received FAI Glavgosexpertiza positive conclusion for the "Murmansk — Petrozavodsk, construction of second public railways. Construction of the second track on the Khibiny (incl.) — Nephelinovye Peski (incl.) section of the Oktyabrskaya railway" project.
The implementation of the project will increase the throughput of the Khibiny — Nephelinovye Peski section, located on the Apatity — Olenegorsk section, for the passage of promising train traffic to the ports of the Kola Peninsula.
The design solutions provide for the construction of the second main track with a length of 11.739 km with the construction of a new bridge over the Malaya Belaya river, the reconstruction of the track development of the Khibiny station with the extension of receiving and departure tracks to 1050 m, as well as the reconstruction of existing and construction of new facilities, including four passenger platforms, points heating and CBI posts at the stations of Khibiny and Nephelinovye Peski.
The design management was carried out by the chief project engineer of the department of survey and design of railways Alexander Nikolaevich Bulatetsky. The developer and source of financing is JSC Russian Railways.
The investment project "Murmansk — Petrozavodsk, construction of second public railways" is being implemented in accordance with the orders of the Government of Russia on the development of railway infrastructure on the approaches to the ports of North-West Russia and the construction of the Lavna Sea Trade Port to ensure the passage of a future stream to the acting ports and ports under construction located in the northern part of the Kola Peninsula.
