Prospecting and design work along the Voybokalo - Ladoga Lake line was carried out by employees of the Vologda expedition and the Leningrad project group in the most unfavorable conditions of a harsh winter and constant attacks by enemy aircraft. Research and construction were carried out simultaneously from several places. Working drawings were issued during construction.
The construction of the entire line was completed on February 10, 1942 - 35 km of the new railway was built in 25 days. On February 10, the first train weighing 1200 tons departed from Voybokalo station to Lake Ladoga to Kabona station with food for Leningraders.
It was planned to build a railway bridge, which was supposed to connect Kobona station on the eastern side of Ladoga with Lake Ladoga station on the western one. The builders began work on both sides of the lake, moving towards each other. By mid-January 1943, a little less than half of the road was built. Break-in locomotives and work trains that took part in the construction were already running on the rails. But the entire site was never built. On January 18, 1943, the troops of the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts broke through the blockade of Leningrad. The workers were immediately transferred to the construction of a similar bridge across the Neva at the break-through site near Shlisselburg.
