In 1970-1980 Lengiprotrans developed the project of the railway line Mogzon - Ozerny mining and processing plant (Ozerny GOK). The dead-end line was intended for the transport connection of the GOK with the Russian railway network. At the Mogzon station, the line adjoins the Trans-Baikal Railway.
The Ozernoye deposit is one of the best zinc deposits in the world in terms of the quantity and quality of ore reserves. Ozerny GOK produces zinc and lead concentrates. The railway was supposed to ensure the transportation of equipment for the development of Ozernoye and other promising deposits, as well as the export of products in the opposite direction.
Specialists of Lengiprotrans carried out engineering surveys of the line and developed a technical design. In 1978, it was approved by the expertise of the Ministry of Railways.
The field work area is characterized by the spread of permafrost soils, seismicity of 6-8 points and poor transport development.
The railway track was laid on the section Mogzon - Khiagda. In 1995, construction was suspended. The completion of the road is planned within the framework of the Strategy for the Development of Railway Transport until 2030. It is assumed that the branch will become part of the connecting route between the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian highways.
