Back in the pre-war period, Lentransproekt (since 1951 — Lengiprotrans) started design and survey work on the Kartaly — Akmolinsk (now Astana) — Pavlodar line, which became an important link in the South Siberian Railway. The line was supposed to contribute to the development of the industry of large coal deposits (Ekibastuz and Korzhenkul) and copper (Boschekul).
In the post-war years, the Institute also carried out major design work on the main railway, including the design of a large bridge across the Ishim River in Kazakhstan.
