The two-track railway line Skovorodino - Shimanovskaya belongs to the Trans-Baikal Railway and is part of the Trans-Siberian Railway. In 1970-1980, Lengiprotrans developed a project for electrification of the site using 27.5 kW alternating current for servicing electric locomotives.
When designing, the key issue was the solution of the structures of the contact network and their embedding in the ground. As a result, the following non-standard solutions were adopted:
• for rocky soils of the 1st group - the development of pits by the explosive method, jackhammers and the installation of shallow foundations with an extended shelf;
• for rocky soils of the 2nd group - drilling holes with a diameter of 40-60 mm, a depth of 1.5 m and embedding anchor bolts in them for attaching supports to them.
At the facility, 8 traction substations, 5 duty points of the contact network with residential buildings for employees and a coal-fired boiler house at the Magdagachi station are designed. A great deal of work has been done to protect communication devices of the USSR Ministry of Railways, the USSR Ministry of Communications and other departments from the influence of alternating current electric traction.
In the course of the work, the specialists of Lengiprotrans developed the documentation “Basic design solutions for electrification”, copies of which were used by other design organizations as a sample.
