The Kupchino station is located at the confluence of the Moscow-Petrogradskaya line of the Petersburg metro with the Vitebsk railway at 11 km. In this regard, the station had the project name "Vitebskaya".
In 1960-1970s Lengiprotrans developed a project for a transfer station for the metro and the Kupchino railway. It became the first land-based station in Leningrad with a transfer between the metro and the railway. The station is built according to the scheme with separate passenger platforms of the metro and the railway, the movement between which is carried out through 2 through passenger tunnels.
At the end of 1972, the opening of the Kupchino station took place.
