The Payuta - Novy Port railway line was developed in parallel with the Obskaya - Bovanenkovo line and is its branch at the Payuta station towards the Ob Bay.
The Payuta - Novy Port route was laid to the Novoportovskoye heavy oil field on the Yamal Peninsula. The oil reserves of this field have unique properties that make it possible to use it as a raw material for rocket fuel.
Due to lack of funding in those years, the Payuta - New Port railway project remained unrealized. However, over the years, large domestic and foreign oil companies have shown interest in it. The construction of a line to approach the Novoportovskoye oil and gas condensate field is currently being considered as part of the Strategy for the Development of Railway Transport in the Russian Federation until 2030.
