Railway line Leningrad - Melnichny Ruchey - a section of the Irinovsky direction of the Oktyabrskaya railway. In the 1892-1920s, the Irinovskaya narrow-gauge railway passed along this direction.
In the 1950s, Lengiprpotrnas developed a project for the electrification of the Leningrad - Melnichny Ruchei section using a DC voltage of 3 kV. Semi-automatic blocking with traffic lights was designed on the line.
In 1958, the regular movement of suburban electric sections began on the railway. Travel time between stations was 36 minutes instead of 1 hour 3 minutes with steam.
The launch of electric trains from Leningrad to Melnichny Rucheya was preceded by the reconstruction of the Leningrad-Passenger-Finlyandsky station, also designed by the institute.
