Highway to ensure transport links between Kazakhstan and Siberia with the Urals, the Volga region and the center of Russia
The railway line Magnitogorsk - Tobol - Zhelezorudnaya - Tselinograd (now Astana) is a double-track line, one of the most important transport routes of the Kazakh SSR. It provided transport links between Kazakhstan and the Urals and the Volga region of Russia.
The line electrification project was developed by Lengiprotrans in 1966-1970. In the same period, the Magnitogorsk - Tobol railway section was transferred to diesel traction.
