Moskovsky railway station in St. Petersburg was designed according to a single project with the Leningradsky railway station in Moscow during the construction of the Nikolaev railway in the 19th century. In 1950-1960s Lengiprotrans was the general designer of the reconstruction of both stations for the purpose of expansion and modernization.
One of the main ideas for the reconstruction of the Moscow railway station was the creation of the second exit of the Ploschad Vosstaniya metro station. The new metro lobby was designed in the right wing of the station from the side of Ligovsky Prospekt and is connected to the platforms for the departure and arrival of trains by underground passages. In the left wing, waiting rooms and a ticket office were provided.
An important task was the overhaul of the landing stage of the Moscow railway station, which had fallen into disrepair. When considering the options for reconstruction, it was decided that the landing stage is the only place to expand the station. Thus, it was redesigned into a central operating room, with luggage storage located underneath.
In 1960-1970 the light hall of the station was reconstructed, two passenger platforms were reconstructed and aluminum canopies were erected over the platforms. In addition to resolving issues related to overhaul of railway station premises (waiting rooms, ticket offices, luggage storage), replacement of internal and external engineering networks, repair of platforms and landscaping, great importance was attached to the restoration of building facades. At the same time, one of the tasks was to recreate the original image of the object as fully as possible and restore the historical interiors.
Thus, Lengiprotrans has been involved in the design of various objects of the Moscow railway station for more than half a century. Before the 1980 Olympic Games, an "Olympic site" was organized in front of the station - a parking lot for public and private vehicles at Ligovsky Prospekt. In 2002, the station was overhauled in connection with preparations for the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.
