The elevated express is a new type of passenger transport that provides rhythmic and uninterrupted movement within the urban transport network. It was supposed to solve transport problems in the southern part of the city, connecting the Krasnoselsky, Kirovsky, Moskovsky, Frunzensky, Nevsky administrative districts.
The rhythm and uninterruptedness of the express train is ensured by a centralized electronic system for organizing traffic, which allows maintaining 3-minute intervals in the departure of 22 train sets during peak hours. About 70% of the route runs along an overpass. On sections of the route passing near residential buildings, noise protection is provided. The estimated capacity of the express is 520 people.
In 2007–2011, Lengiprotrans developed a project for the first stage of the elevated express line. For economic reasons, the project was suspended.
In subsequent years, Lengiprotrans took part in the implementation of an alternative project - the organization of passenger rail links to Pulkovo airport.
